INSIDE OUT

The following project is a high-rise office space situated along the beltline in Atlanta Georgia. The project goal is to provide more public and community space at the bottom half of the building with office space above.

“We have designed a building that expresses path and movement of the site for integration with the fabric”. The building itself is a simple rectilinear box that is lifted over an open void that shoots itself over the beltline horizontally. The underbelly of the building opens up to the from the beltline to the future more under-developed context anticipating future growth. This creates a Machine of Movement at the bottom half of the building reminiscent of the more Civic typologies pulling from historical Rail Stations of Atlanta flowing people off and on from the Beltline and surrounding context.

The program is organized in reaction to that large underbelly of the building which has been opened to create a machine of movement funneling visitors into the building as well as connecting them to the external fabric reminiscing to historical elements of Atlanta . As a result in accompanying a large set of stairs to provide this on and off ramp between the fabric and the new beltline the building provides a civic role to its context doubling its function.

Furthering that machine of movement idea we flipped traditional office buildings inside out expressing stairs and circulatory paths creating a dynamic exterior accented by operable screens on the south side.

The office building as shown the left in the axonometric section expresses the planar relation to the Beltline (Shown in deep orange). The internal office space hovers and overlaps with the public zone below (The Beltline).

The showcase of balconies wrap the outer edge of the office space along with steps reaching between them. Furthermore the building is anchored by a two split core system. The side facing the large entry steps accommodates the elevator, lobby and entry space while the back side core houses the bathroom and mechanical spaces.
